Some little-known benefits of joint custody

On Behalf of Law Office of Timothy S. Keough, P.A. | Dec 23, 2023 | Family Law

It’s safe to say couples never wed with plans of divorcing later. However, thousands of spouses across the country will divorce this year. When parents divorce, the security and well-being of their children are typically their primary concern. It has been proven that children benefit the most when both parents remain involved in their lives, so many parents in Florida choose joint custody as their preferred child custody arrangement. Here are some little-known benefits that often come with a joint custody arrangement.

Cost-sharing

Most of the time, parents who have a joint custody arrangement naturally share more of the expenses that come with parenting and raising children. Anyone who is a parent knows that needs like school projects or activities will inevitably pop up. Typically, each parent will handle these expenses as they arise. Keep in mind that larger expenses should be shared by both parents.

Routines

In most joint custody arrangements, parenting time is shared and parents work together to determine how this time will be divided. Once parents have agreed on a particular schedule and routine, it will benefit all parties involved. With a consistent routine, parents will know in advance which days they will have the kids so they can plan. A routine will also allow parents to plan their free time.

More free time

With a joint custody arrangement, each parent will have time away from the children. At first, it can be a big adjustment. However, parents can use their free time to focus on their careers or recharge so they can show up as the best version of themselves for their children. In Florida, the laws surrounding child custody can be confusing. Parents who have questions about child custody laws or custody arrangements can get help by contacting a knowledgeable family law attorney.
