Handling divorce stress at work

On Behalf of Law Office of Timothy S. Keough, P.A. | Feb 15, 2022 | Divorce

When a marriage erodes, it can create all kinds of emotions in those involved. Often, the stressors of divorce can carry into the workplace, which can be especially difficult when trying to keep a clear head. Even though Florida residents going through the divorce process may like to talk about what they’re going through, unloading at work might not be the wisest thing to do.

One might not find adequate support

The workplace is often one of competition among co-workers who may not be all that sympathetic to a colleague’s personal problems. If talking to someone during work hours is a must, seeking out a manager or a supervisor rather than a co-worker is likely a better bet. Even before opening up to a supervisor, an employee should really think about whether or not it would be appropriate. Perhaps divorce is a subject better discussed with family and close friends.

Don’t get lost in work

On many occasions, those who are divorcing try to keep busy with other things, and work may be one of those. Some people tend to become workaholics, which can become unhealthy, like any other addiction. A better way of dealing with a divorce, professionals suggest, may be to spend some time striving for forgiveness, as forgiveness of oneself can be equally as important as forgiving a former spouse.

When a person can work through the stress of divorce, it may help increase the likelihood of a positive outcome. In some cases, this can also help to avoid the litigation process, which can be time-consuming and add additional stress into the equation. Either way, having a strong legal advocate by one’s side can provide a safe, trustworthy avenue for support during this trying time.
